Cheese is part of our heritage (19-4-08)

Robin Skailes and Lesley Barlow It was the Annual General Meeting of the Heritage Group last Tuesday (15th April) and over 60 Villagers were there to hear of the solid progress that has been made over the last 12 months. The Committee, led by Chairman, Lesley Barlow, have clearly worked very hard to win initial funding for the project so that it can be taken further in the coming year.

Following the AGM, we were treated to a fascinating insight into the past, and present, manufacture of Stilton Cheese in Cropwell Bishop. Robin Skailes, a member of the family that owns and manages the Cropwell Bishop Creamery, used a projector, a relaxed manner and a willingness to answer numerous questions about the making of cheese, to engage everyone for the next hour. The evening became even more relaxed when the Heritage Committee provided a glass of wine and Robin supplied a never ending supply of superb cheeses from the Creamery.

The photograph shows Robin and Lesley with the cheeses.
