Cropwell Bishop Post Office (11-8-12)

Like most of you in the Village, I was worried that we might permanently lose the Post Office in Cropwell Bishop, so I contacted Royal Mail and received a reply this morning. The main content is printed below.

Date: 11 August 2012

Dear Mr Jarrow

Thank you for contacting me regarding our Cropwell Bishop Post Office® branch.

I am sorry that the temporary closure of the branch has inconvenienced you. The provision of Post Office services to our customers in the local community is important to us and any decision to temporarily close a branch is not taken lightly. I can assure you that we had no option other than to close the branch on this occasion.

Unfortunately because of the temporary Postmistress of the above branch informing us that she does not wish to continue operating the service we had no alternative but to close the office at the end of July 2012. Please be assured that Post Office Ltd is working to resume Post Office services at Cropwell Bishop.

The nearest branches to you are:

Cotgrave Post Office: 2 The Cross, Cotgrave, Nottingham NG12 3HS
Langar Post Office: Main Street, Langar, Nottingham NG13 3HE

I am sorry that I have no specific information to give you about when this Post Office branch will reopen, and apologise for the inconvenience this causes.

Once again please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by this incident. If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Yours sincerely

Let's get a better Bus Service (25-7-12)

We have received notice of the County's intention to review our bus services as part of the TITAN project. The County are seeking our views on the type of bus/transport services we want and I would encourage you to complete the questionnaire.

My particular comments were that Cropwell Bishop needs an evening service to Nottingham ( I don't mind if it is a guaranteed link wtih Radcliffe, Cotgrave or Bingham!) and a more direct commuter/shopper service to encourage villagers to travel to work/Town by bus and avoid the need for second and third cars in a family!

I also believe there is scope for saving by combining the daytime subsidised 53 and 22 services. It is important that available options are discussed.

Could you please complete the on line questionnaire and let the Parish Council know if you have any particular views you wish taken forward for discussion with the TITAN project team in October.

High Speed Broadband in Cropwell Bishop? (10-7-12)

If you saw yesterday's Nottingham Post, you will know that there was a full page article about the problems being experienced by Cropwell Bishop Creamery as it struggles to do its business over the internet. It has found it so slow (tell us about it!) that it spends over £800 a month to ensure it has a faster connection.

I hear lots of complaints from villagers about our poor connection and, if anything, it seems to be getting slower year by year. At least we do now have the option of a radio connection at very high speed and at a similar price to BT's offering (see "I Need Broadband! . . ." article of 7-6-12).

Then again, many of you will have heard that money is going to be invested in better rural connections in Nottinghamshire. The question is: will Cropwell Bishop be one of the places to get a faster one?

At the moment, no one knows; the decision has not been made. However, from what was written in the Post (including the Editorial leader), the decision on who gets priority will depend, to some extent, on the response of the public. Notts County Council wants to get at least 5000 pledges of support for 'Superfast Broadband in Notts'.

These pledge will be seen as evidence of a high level of demand for a faster connection.

If you will spend a few minutes filling in an online form for Notts CC, then it can only help to raise our profile in the eyes of those making key decisions. The Post article is a great start, now lets back it up with our personal support.

Go to:

http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/broadband/

It just takes a minute or two to tick some boxes. To some of you, the form may look familiar: maybe you filled in a very similar looking one over a year ago. I did, but I still filled this one in without any problem. Maybe they lost the first list we filled in!

I don't know if this will get us Superfast Broadband in Cropwell Bishop but I certainly don't want to discover next year that, say, Cropwell Butler is getting one because they pledged more support, do you?
