Cropwell Bishop Buses (27-7-14)

As most of you are aware, the Number 22 bus service that has served Cropwell Bishop for at least 40 years, is being cut back to the bone. Getting out and back into the Village by bus will become even more difficult from the 4th August.

The Parish Council has sent a letter to Notts County Council protesting very strongly at the planned cuts.

It has also started a petition for the restoration of the service. You can sign it at either The Cabin or the Co-Op.

To download a copy of the letter and also a summary of our bus service from 4th August, go to the Parish Council's own website. Click on the box, "Cropwell Bishop Parish Council website" in the right-hand column on this page—just below 'What's new elsewhere?'

Help required! (10-8-14)

Parish Room 2004 Cropwell Bishop Heritage Group and St. Giles P.C.C. are gradually restoring the old Parish Room (opposite “The Cabin”).

We are now ready to paint the interior walls and ceiling and would welcome help from any villager who can wield a paint brush or roller.

We are initially planning two painting sessions:-

- Tuesday 19th August from 10.30 for about 2-3 hours;

- Saturday 23rd August from 10.30 for about 2-3 hours.

If you can help, just turn up on the day suitably attired!

Paint, brushes and rollers will be provided, unless you would like to bring your own “favourite” brush. If you could bring a paint tray that would be helpful.

Drinks and light snacks will be provided.

Any questions; please contact Ann on 0115-989 2770

Thank you.

See you there!

Building closed but Co-Op open (13-8-14)

The Co-Op building is closed for building work at the moment but the Co-Op is still open for business.

It is doing its best to meet the essential needs of villagers with its regular staff serving from its 'Pop-Up Shop". Standing in what is usually its car park, the shop is open from 7am to 6pm selling a range of foods to get you by—including milk and bread.

You can see from pictures that it should at least be able to satisfy your immediate needs.

The Cabin (21-7-14)

Cabin Our village shop, The Cabin, was badly damaged by fire when it was broken into on Saturday night.
This is an appeal from the Police:

Message sent by: George Draper (Police, PCSO 4700, Rushcliffe South)

At approximately 23:45 hours on Saturday 19/07/14 a fire was started in the Cabin on Church Street Cropwell Bishop.

Did you or anyone you know witness this incident?
Do you know who has committed this crime?
Do you have a CCTV camera, which may have captured the incident?
Have you seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area in recent days?

The Police are seeking information from anyone with any knowledge of this offence.
If you have any information which may assist please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101  or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

Quote incident number 000045-20072014

Although the shop is closed, owners, Mark and Chantelle, are determined not to let down their newspaper customers and they have continued to deliver papers without interruption. You can also buy papers and pay your bill at the makeshift cabin behind the shop.

Fortunately, now one was hurt in the blaze but if the culprits are allowed to get away with this attack, they will be encouraged to carry out further arson attacks and, sooner or later, there will be fatalities. Let's find and stop them before they get the chance.

Cropwell Sunsets (19-7-14)

Here is another view of that amazing sunset last Wednesday, this one from Mercia Avenue captured by Jan Marsh. Sunset

Just two days earlier, from the same spot and at virtually the same time, the sky looked totally different. Also taken by Jan Marsh. Sunset

Sunset I wasn't the only person to capture the colourful sunset on Tuesday evening. This dramatic shot was captured by Martin Barratt.

Did you look out? (16-7-14)

Rainbow Rainbow Did you look up at the sky this evening, just as it started to rain?
If so, you will have seen a full rainbow under perfect conditions: the sun was low and the sky behind the rainbow was dark.

You may have spotted the fainter, secondary rainbow too.

If you later looked in the opposite direction you will have seen the beautiful sunset.
Memorable experiences for free.

Cropwell Bishop Safari Garage Sale (14-7-14)

Safari Sale The Safari Sale held on 28 June, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, was a great success.

We had over 20 sales dotted round the village, people came from near and far (including Bilborough!) to snap up the bargains, and even the threatened rain stayed away.

I’m delighted to report that together we raised a fantastic £366 for Marie Curie.

Special thanks to Lisa Newbold, Anne Mansfield, Tony Jarrow and Mel and Bob Stanley for their help, and to Jan and the Village News for the advertising.

Mick's Cat: update (4-7-14)

"I'm very pleased to report that Mick's cat has found a new home, thank you to everyone who shared the post, just happy we've got a happy ending to such a sad event"

Katherine Cordon

Mick's Cat (30-6-14)

Following on from Mick Taylor's sudden death last week ........

"His beautiful pedigree house-cat is now in urgent need of a loving home. She is not young (over 12?).

Attempts to get a local charity to have her have not been successful as there are no spaces at any local shelters, including the RSPCA.

Currently she is being fed twice a day by neighbours, but is desperately missing human company and faces a very uncertain future if she cannot be urgently re homed.

Please contact Pat on 0115-989 2195 if you can help."

Safari Sale (28-6-14)

A large number of people, including some from afar, made the most of the unexpectedly dry weather and visited around twenty garage sales taking place in the Village today. Here are a few of them.

Mick Taylor (24-6-14)

Mick Taylor The picture above is of Mick Taylor of Cropwell Bishop. He is with Judy Thomas at the Gardening Club social evening a week ago. Sadly, Mick died suddenly yesterday.

Mick and his wife had lived at their home on Marshall Road several decades, possibly since it was built. In the early 1980s Mick was very much into CB radio which was the forerunner of mobiles phones.

When I first started organising the Cropwell Bishop 10 mile Run in 1984 we had no way of communicating with marshals out on the course—mobile phones did not exist.

The problem was solved by Mick who, along with Colin Bryan, led a team of Citizen Band (CB) radio enthusiasts who maintained a radio link with the Race Headquarters at the Memorial Hall. This enabled me to provide a running commentary to specators at the finish. In those days, Mick and his team were the radio experts who owned the hand held radios and had the necessary very long aerials on their cars.

It was just over a year ago that Mick's wife, Gill, died but he appeared to be gradually adjusting to the change. He was increasingly enjoying more acitivies in the Village including Cropwell Cinema, Saturday Cafe and the Gardening Club.

He will be greatly missed by many in Cropwell Bishop.
