Cropwell United celebrate promotion with win (9-5-10)

Cropwell United Yesterday, the many riders on the Belvoir Bike Ride suffered aweful wet weather (once again!) but this morning there was brilliant sunshine. It shone on our local team, Cropwell United, who did what Forest supporters hope their team can do: they won, and next season they will be in the top division.

The opposition, Ardley Athletic, showed sparks of good football but they were no match for the fire in the hearts of the Cropwell players.

The final score was 7-0 and manager Dan Thorpe looked pleased with his players and the players looked pleased with the result. In fact, a pleasing day all round if you come from Cropwell. Well done players and well done management.

Local team to be proud of (4-5-10)

Cropwell United FC Cropwell United FC Cropwell United FC Cropwell United FC The three local football teams have done really well this year. Notts County out-played the other second division teams to become champions and gain promotion; Forest are on their way to Wembly and into the Premiership (fingers crossed); and the third team? Cropwell United FC!

Because there are no longer any football matches played on the Memorial Hall playing field, it is easy to forget that there is a local football team. Cropwell United is primarily made up of local players with several from Cropwell Bishop. In fact, 19 of the 22 signed-up players come from either Bishop or Butler. One player has always played for the village team and he is now nearly 50 years old!

Last year the team won promotion to the second division of the Empal Sunday League. This year they have won promotion again! Even with one game still to play, they know that they will be playing in the first division next year.

The team is managed by Adam Flint, who lives in Cropwell Bishop, and Dan Thorpe. They are obviously very pleased with the team’s performances this year. As well as their league success, they reached the semi-final of one cup competition and the quarter-final of another.

If you like to see goals, then you should go and watch the team play: they have scored 57 goals in 20 games this year. A couple of weeks ago they won 5-0 and then last week they won 11-0. They are unbeaten at home this season in all competitions.

Why not go and see them play before the season ends? This Sunday (9th May) they play at home on Sheldon Field, at Cropwell Butler against Ardley Athletic. To reach the ground, go down the small roadway on the left-hand side of Butler Village Hall. It is a superb flat pitch. The kick-off is at 10.30am and it is much cheaper than going to watch Forest or County: it’s free!

See you there then?
