Cropwell Bishop Village Parish Plan

Friday for food, fun and photos (16-7-10)

Winning photo Second place photo Friday night—it must be CKOB at the Old School.

Thanks to the great efforts of a small number of adults from the village, our younger members of the community can relax after a week of school and enjoy a variety of activities between 7pm and 9pm.

This evening they had the opportunity to be creative with fruits, vegetables and drinks.

Whilst a blender whirred and a chocolate machine slurped, the Key Stage 2 children were able to carve shapes into vegetables. They also had the opportunity to taste unusual fruits as well as sup a smoothie.

To follow there were computer games on the big projector screen as well as the TV monitor.

As part of a CKOB photo competition, children took photographs at the Celebration Weekend earlier this month and tonight they were on display.

Some of the photos are shown on the right and below.

The winning picture (top right) was taken by Libby. The picture in second place (right) was by Jasmine.

Runners up were Alex and Amy. They were all awarded prizes.

Also shown below are pictures of the creative food they enjoyed.

If you are an adult I am sure that your memories of Youth Clubs are not as colourful and exciting as this.

Support Your Local Youth Group (15-6-10)

CKOB Cropwell Bishop Youth Group (CKOB - Cool Kids Of Bishop) has entered into the Kerrygold Community Awards project.

The Kerrygold Community Awards have been set up to recognise and reward community projects in the UK, where groups of individuals have worked together to achieve something in their community.

From the beginning of June until the end of August, each of the Kerrygold tubs and packs of butter will contain a unique number. All you have to do is buy special packs of Kerrygold butter, and enter the unique number from the pack on our website.

By doing this, you’ll be giving 10p to the Community Awards fund. You can then vote for your favourite community project. The more people who enter their unique number on the website, the bigger the fund, and the more money we’ll give away!

Kerrygold will be sharing out the fund so the project in each region with the most votes will win an equal share of the fund (this makes 9 winners). As well as this, a judging panel will be selecting the ‘judges’ choice. This will be a project that hasn’t won in it’s region, but the judges feel stands out and is still worthy of being recognised and rewarded. In total, there will be 10 winners, who will equally share the prize fund.

Please buy a pack of Kerrygold Butter and vote for us using the unique code on the pack by visiting www.kerrygoldcommunityawards.co.uk and search for Cropwell Bishop.

CKOB (10-5-10)

CKOB CKOB stands for 'Cropwell Kids Of Bishop' - that is the name that our youngsters have come up with for their youth group.

On youth activity nights, as many as 35 youngsters meet to take part in activities, learn new skills, listen to guest speakers, enjoy sports, etc.

A good mix of adult volunteers contribute to these nights; Tracy Berridge, Simon Barlow, Jo Wroughton, Lisa Simpson, Clare Burton, Mel Stanley, and Peter Walters have all been involved in helping to make these nights safe and entertaining.

To find out what events are planned, click on the Youth Page and look for CKOB.

The listed events are for Year 6 (and above) but on these evenings Year 9 (and above) are invited to meet in the upstair's room at the Old School. Come along with your friends to chat, chill, play games and listen to your music.

It costs just £1 for members to enjoy a CKOB evening. Non-members pay £1.50. Membership forms are available on the night.

All events are supervised at all times. For more information please contact Jackie at cbparishclerk@aol.com

Young artists learn new skills (27-3-10)

Graffiti art at Skate Park Graffiti art at Skate Park Traditional artists may use paint brushes but modern ones use the best medium available for the job.

If the 'job' is to brighten up a big wooden structure, then cans of spray paint are the best tools.

A group of Cropwell Bishop children gave up last Monday evening to learn the essential skills of graffiti art. At the Old School they attended an Art Workshop run by local artist, Nathan, of SmallKid Design. His task was to show them how to create colourful artwork using spray paint- and he had only a few hours to teach them.

Today, they put those new found skills to good use: they set to painting the big expanse of blank wood surrounding the Skate Park ramps on the Memor

These photos were taken at 11am. In the next few days, I will be posting photos of the finished job: keep a look out.

Note: Today's event, and last Monday's training, was organised by the Parish Council - and it was free to the childern. Costs were covered by a grant won by Council Clerk, Jacki Grice.

A page for the young people of Cropwell Bishop

The article below appeared in the March 2009 issue of Cropwell Bishop News....

Scouts are coming back to the village

You will no doubt know how it is when someone says to you “Why don’t you do (something)?” and you think to yourself “Why on earth would I want to do that?” Well, a chance comment in the playground while picking up the little ones from school has sparked an idea which has grown into a real possibility. I was heavily involved with Scouting for many years both as a member and latterly as leader and the question of would you do it again? Made me think, would I? And of course the answer was a resounding yes. We have already held an initial meeting in the Old School for people interested in becoming leaders or helping out and this has been a resounding success so much so that we can now move forward to the next stage of looking for parent helpers and compiling a waiting list of young people who are interested in joining. Initially we are looking at starting with Beavers and soon afterwards opening a Cub Pack. Eventually we will also open a Scout Troop and Explorer Section.

Who can join Beaver Scouts and Cubs?

First and foremost both Girls and Boys

Beavers

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

Cubs

There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try many different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing, and collecting. They also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks, or a farm. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean you sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities. I am asking all parents and children who are interested to contact me through the Parish Council so that we can move a stage nearer to opening our first Beaver Colony.
