Inspiration for growth at Gardening Club (9-11-08)

Mike Davey chatting talking At tonight's meeting of the Gardening Club at the Memorial Hall, over 40 people were shown how to grow their own food by expert Mike Davy of Ruddington. Mike has a degree in botany and has worked with plants all his life. He currently lectures at the University. However, he is very much a 'hands on' expert and maintains an allotment (that is the size of three normal plots!) near his home.
Using numerous slides, he showed us how he gets the most from his land giving tips on choice of seeds, pruning, watering, etc, etc. Several members of the village allotment group were in the audience and as he spoke you could almost see them itching to order their seed and get out their spades.
