Plenty to see here (21-6-12) Lime Kiln

Maybe you think that living on the edge of the village alongside the Colston Bassett Road is a quite place to be on a summer's evening; or strolling up to the Lime Kiln is an opportunity to get away from the crowds. Either way, yesterday evening would have come as a bit of a shock to you.

There were dozens of racing cyclists pushing themselves to their limit on a 3 mile circuit that included the Lime Kiln, Owthorpe cross roads and Colston Bassett. It was all very exciting and, with there being 10 laps, there were plenty of opportunities to see the riders.

Cropwell Bishop is very popular with local cyclists: on Thursday evenings there is a 10 mile time trial starting at the Lime Kiln.

Why not wander up and take a look sometime: you don't have to go to the London Olympics to see real sporting action, it is on your doorstep.

Cropwell Bishop Playgroup Needs You:
Dads Ride 2012 - St Bees to Robinhoods Bay (12-6-12)

Here is a message from Cropwell Bishop Playgroup:

"Our fantastic community playgroup has been within the village for nearly 45 years and has been awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted. Established and maintained by community fundraising it is now facing eviction.

Help us raise money for this excellent Playgroup via sponsorship for the Dads from Cropwell Bishop Playgroup, who on the 1st July 2012 will be setting off to cycle the 210 miles from St Bee's on the Coast of the Lake District (West Coast) to Robinhoods Bay on the Yorkshire Coast (East Coast). The route to be taken is mainly off road and will take approx 7 days to complete.

The money you pledge will be used within the playgroup to help overcome the up and coming eviction and enable this village facility to continue to run for the benifit of our children and grandchildren.

More Jubilee Feedback (11-6-12)

I would like to share with you an email I received today:

"Tony

I wish to add my thanks to the councillors and others involved in the planning of our excellent village celebrations. It was very pleasing that they were all well supported, particularly the party on Monday.

Residents of Cropwell Bishop are very fortunate to have very proactive Parish Councillors, all your work is very much appreciated.

Sheila Sherriff"

Whilst all the people who made last weekend a memorable event don't seek praise for their efforts, a few kind words go a long way to making it all worthwhile.
It would seem that people also liked to view pictures of the celebrations: in recent days the number of people visiting this website every day has consisitently been over 200.

"I Need Broadband! . . ." (7-6-12) Broadband transmitter map

You must have seen the banners around the village and no doubt had a leaflet pushed through your letterbox advertising "ineedbroadband.co.uk". But, you may well still be wondering it is all about.

You can go to the website to get details of this new internet service but you would probably rather wait until somebody else has taken the plunge to see if the hype holds up.
Well, your wait is now over: Jim Quinn, of Cooper Close, connected to this new service a couple of weeks ago and he only too happy to pass on his experiences so far. This is what he has to say.

"Cropwell Bishop is now connected to Superfast broadband thanks to ineedbroadband.co.uk . A local company based in Nottingham (so no overseas call centres) who provide Internet services wirelessly. The signal originates from a mast sited just outside the village and is received through a small white box which is attached to your house (in my case the pole of my tv aerial) which is surprisingly unobtrusive.
I am pleased to say that we can now get a reliable Internet connection of up to 20Mb! Yes 20Mb! Before my installation I was getting 0.6Mb on a good day with Talktalk and less when I was with BT. I have now had the Service for almost 2weeks and have been very impressed with the connection, no dropped signals and it has not been affected by the wind, rain or mini heatwave we have had in this time. We can now stream films and music through the Internet without the buffering and frustratingly long download times, the children can play games online as well as use it as a resource for school work. Previously the Internet was a bit of a pain to use, now it's a joy..... exactly the way it's supposed to be.
It is worth noting that BT still do not have any plans to update our exchange to fibre so I would like to thank the local company ineedbroadband.co.uk for stepping in and providing this much needed service to our village.
I would be happy to answer any questions that anyone has about my experiences with this Internet service/company
Jim Quinn"

Well, Jim is certainly very positive about "ineedbroadband.co.uk". Does anybody else have experience of this new service? If so, why not email me with your own commments: I am sure a lot of people in Cropwell Bishop are very keen to get a superfast broadband connection and see this as a possible solution.

More Jubilee Memories and Comments (5-6-12) Jubilee Photos

Children and people of all ages were able to enjoy the celebrations yesterday.

There was something for everyone on the Memorial Hall Field: a climbing frame, an open-air service, dry grass to sit on, ice cream and also drinks to quench your thirst .

There was also the opportunity to wear a union jack in whatever way you wish: days like that don't come very often.

There have been many positive comments on the weekend's events and some are printed below.

A Jubilee Night to Remember (4-6-12)

It is almost certain that there will never be another one but Cropwell Bishop was honoured to light one of the 4200 beacons throughout the country to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Thankfully, this evening was both dry and relatively warm and so the dancers leaped, the BBQ sizzled, the Beacon glowed and the fireworks sparkled. Another memorable evening on the Memorial Hall Field.

Well done and thanks to all those who worked hard to make it a success.

Our Flower Heritage (3-6-12)

St Giles Church has a magnificent display of flowers.

It is fortunate that the Jubilee Weekend corresponds with a big local wedding that took place in the Church yesterday. As a result, we too can appreciate the displays, and scent, that the wedding guests enjoyed. You can see the flowers every day until Tuesday afternoon.

Alongside the flowers is a display of pictures and newspaper cuttings of past jubilee celebrations in the village: this has been set up by the Heritage Group.

Jubilee Walkers start off the long weekend (1-6-12)

Around 60 people got the Village's Jubilee celebrations off to a good start with a 3 mile walk that included a trek to the top of Hoe Hill and a strole along the bank of the Grantham Canal.

Along the way they tested their Royal knowledge by answering 20 questions on their guide sheet with the help of pictures posted along the way.

Not too hot and not too cold—just right for walking and not a drop of rain in sight. Let's hope the weather stays fine for the other village activities over the next three days. See you there?
