Cropwell Bishop Bike Ride—Day 2 (9-6-13)

Bike Ride This morning, riders in the Cropwell Bishop Bike Ride, started the day in an extremely enthusiastic mood. By 6am, virtually all the teams had completed at least a lap of the 7 mile circuit. In spite of their efforts during 8 hours yesterday, they were all keen to add to their total number of laps.

Throughout the morning, riders came and went with hardly a second wasted as each rider handed over their 'baton' to the next team member. Teams supported their riders with shouts and cheers as they headed into sight and it was clear that riders were making a great physical effort to ensure they did not let down their team.

Bike Ride By the time the event ended at noon, 3 teams had each completed 38 laps—that's 266 miles. Added together, the 20 teams covered a total distance of 3759 miles. That's equal to the distance from Lands End to Jon O'Groats—plus the distance from New York to California!

By the end of the event there were many stories to be told: the riders who rode lap after lap continuously without a break; the punctures out on the course; the many youngsters who rode side by side urging each other on; the marshals who used radios to keep us informed of the progress of teams as they sped by; and so on.

Bike Ride Prize presentations were made immediately after the end of the event by Councillor Richard Butler. There were several prizes and trophies given out but, in truth, 50 trophies would have not been enough to reward the tremendous efforts of everyone involved with the event. And, not just for the riders, but also for the organisers, marshals and 'backroom' people who made the weekend wonderful.

Fittingly, the sun shone down on everyone as the event ended and the prizes were presented.

NOTE
After the event, a medal and pair of sunglasss were found in the football nets on the field. To claim them, please email me at: tony@cropwellbishopplan.co.uk

Cropwell Bishop Bike Ride (8-6-13)

Bike Ride Bike Ride Today was the first day of the Cropwell Bishop Bike Ride. It started at noon and team relays of riders of all abilites cycled around a 7 mile circuit which started and finished at the Memorial Hall and included Owthorpe and Colston Bassett.

Most of the 20 teams of riders are camped on the Memorial Hall field tonight and will start riding again at 5am tomorrow. The event ends at the Memorial Hall at noon tomorrow, Sunday 9th June.

This event is organised by the Memorial Hall Committee with Steven Newbold in charge. However, over a hundred people support the it by marshalling, cooking, serving teas, etc. Also, dozens of adults and children are members of the cycling teams: there are 20 teams altogether this year.

This event has been held every other year since 1999 and this is the 8th time it has taken place. Over that time £44,000 has been raised. Half the money goes to charity and half towards maintenance of the Memorial Hall. This year, and on the last 5 occasions, the charity that will benefit is the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.

Today, a combined total of over 1500 miles has been covered by the cyclists.

Friday 5th July at 7.30 pm.

Tickets will be available from The Cabin or on the door, priced at £5 for adults and £1 for children.

In conjunction with this performance, there will be a competition for children to design a multicoloured coat for Joseph. If you would like to enter, please bring your design to St Giles's Church or 18 Church Street by 1st July. Please write your name, age, address and phone number on the back of your entry.
All the entries will be displayed in church throughout the Village Celebration Weekend of 5th-7th July and prizes will be awarded within the age groups of under 5 years, 5-8 years, 8-11 years and over 11 years.

We will also be exhibiting other "Joseph" memorabilia in church during the Village Celebration Weekend. If you have any items that could be included, we would love to hear from you.
