Celebration Weekend (9-7-13)

Last weekend was Cropwell Bishop's Celebration Weekend which included the 10th 'Picnic in the Park'. Wonderful weather made it a memorable three days for hundreds of villagers and their guests.

Below is a small selection of photos taken by Mel Stanley and myself.

I am loading the images onto the website from a laptop in the middle of Norfolk. We are in the middle of moving house and until we get into our new home at the end of the month, it is proving difficult to make additions to the site.

40 People Catch Same Bus In Cropwell Bishop! (15-6-13)

Roadshow Bus The Bus Roadshow rolled into Cropwell Bishop last Wednesday and there was standing room only on the bus.

A full bus and going no-where! The villagers on board knew this but they were anxious to find out where proposed plans for our local buses would leave them in the coming years.

Did the speaker soon have them cheering—or reaching for the stop button? Go to the Travel Page and find out.

Parish Council Minutes (13-6-13)

Bored with the programmes on TV? Instead of watching the unreal goings-on in a Yorkshire dale or some distant metropolitan suburb, why not find out what is really going on in your own village?

Our Parish Councillors are keen to do their best for you and you can find out what the hot topics are by attending the monthly Council Meetings at the Old School. If you have not been able to, do the next best thing and read the Minutes of the meetings. To find out how, click on the new Cropwell Bishop Parish Council (CBPC) page above.

St Pancras (11-6-13)

Nigel Lowery What a fascinating and interesting talk at the WI this evening!

If ever you have looked around you at the structure and improvements of St Pancras Railway Station, or its Hotel, or the Eurostar terminal down the escalator, and wondered how/why it all came about, then you will be kicking yourself for missing the talk at the Old School this evening.

Nigel Lowery took a deep interest in St Pancras over twenty years ago, and whilst he is not an architect, historian or railway buff, he has managed to talk to so many of the people involved with St Pancras that he has probably aquired a broader knowledge than the experts. Having given this talk almost 300 times, he is well qualified to lead 90 minute tours around the St Pancras Hotel—and indeed is doing just that in his spare time.

I am sure that those who were present will look at St Pancras with new eyes next time they are there: through the eyes of a Railway owner, an Engineer, an Architect, a Politician, a Renovator, and an Artist.

It was the very first time, Cropwell Bishop WI had opened its doors to everyone tonight: there were even 11 males there. In doing so they certainly scored a hit by having Nigel Lowery give his illustrated talk.
