Celebration Weekend: Saturday Picnic in the Park (9-7-11)
Over 500 people were on the Memorial Hall field to enjoy the annual Picnic in the Park last Saturday evening. From early evening bands played music whilst groups of friends and families sat drinking and munching in the warm sunshine.
Children danced in front of the stage and played in the play park and games area. Most people seemed to agree that it was the most enjoyable 'Picnic in the Park' to date.
At a quarter to eleven, the fireworks began and the format this year was new and better. As well as starting a bit later—and so darker—the fireworks were let off on the other side of the canal. Not being able to see them being lit seemed to add to the drama of the spectacle. The stirring music which was played throughout most of the display certainly did.
A wonderful evening and excellent value for money. The Parish Councillors and their helpers seemed to have developed a winning formula for this event. Having warm, sunny and dry weather is obviously a massive plus factor. Lets all hope that the Parish Council is able to present another 'Cropwell Glastonbury' event next year.
