What do you do on a Thursday evening? (30-4-10)

Square Dancing Ever thought of square dancing?

No, neither did most of the other people who now regularly go to the Old School on Thrusday evenings.

The thing they go on about most, is the fun they have.

For just £2.50 you haven't got much to lose; why not give it a try?

The next session starts on June 3rd: it is on our Diary page - make a note in your diary.

What is going on at the Old School? (28-4-10)

Allotment payment evening Piles of printed paper, people sat at desks concentrating on their writing. Could it be that the Old School is being used for some kind of examinations?

Maybe it's something to do with the Open University. But then they seem to be looking too happy and content to be sitting an examination.

There is only one way to find out; click on the Alloments page and read the full story.

The hard work is greatly appreciated (27-4-10)

Bike Ride cheque presentation Bike Ride cheque presentation Bike Ride cheque presentation It was in May last year that Steve Newbold and his big team of helpers toiled around the clock to support 19 teams of cyclists as they continuously lapped a 7 mile circuit around the Cropwell countryside. I am sure that some people must wonder why they all do it.

Well in the Memorial Hall tonight there were some clues. You have to love the challenge of making such a demanding event a success. When cylists are striving to shave seconds off their lap times, there is no room for complacency at the changeovers or on the Results Board where the laps are totted up. It is fortunate that there are people like Steve and his assistants who are willing to put in the effort because if there weren't, you would not get pictures like these to enjoy.

Last years Bike Ride raised £5752 for charity and this evening the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance organisation were presented with a cheque for half of that total.

The other half of the money was presented by Steve to the Cropwell Bishop Memorial Hall and it was accepted by Irene Hickman.

The Bike Ride was started by Colin and Debbie Bryan but for several years Steve and the rest of the Newbold family have been the organisers. Over the years, it has raised over £40,000 for charity; a great achievement and one that all those involved can be proud of. Well done to them and all those cylists who raised the money.

David Barlow (24-4-10)

David Barlow As most of you will already be aware, David Barlow of Cropwell Bishop died on Wednesday 14th April.

David had been our Borough councillor for 15 years and was also a member of the Parish Council. He had been ill for a number of years but, with the great support of his wife Pam, he managed to cope with his health problems. Our thoughts are with Pam and her family at this sad time.

His funeral will take place on Thursday 29th April at 2.00pm at St Giles Church, Cropwell Bishop. Family flowers only.

Donations in his memory, if desired, to the Dialysis Unit at the City Hospital at Dundee House, City Hospital c/o William Roberts & Sons, Funeral Directors, Bottesford, Notts.

On the Pinfold with St. George (23-4-10)

St Georges's Day St Georges's Day Once again the village celebrated St George's Day with tea, soft drinks and cakes on the Pinfold. These were free but people were able to donate money to Dove Cottage - the hospice at Stathern.

A small group of people basked in the glorious sunshine as they quietly supped their tea and munched their cake shortly after 3.00pm. There were even two students of journalism from Trent University filming the occasion.

Half an hour later, it was a very different scene when parents and children from the Primary School boosted 'sales' significantly. It is nice to have the Pinfold looking so attractive and inviting these days.

Not so long ago, organisers would have avoided old seats, poor paving and long grass: now just bad memories.

Thanks to all who prepared the seating and refreshments and those who helped to make it an enjoyable event.
