Cropwell Wolds (14-9-08)

start uphill

The highest point in Cropwell Bishop - and hardly anyone goes there!

Twenty members of the Cropwell Bishop Walking Club made the most of the warm, dry weather to climb up to Cropwell Wolds. They could have used the morning to run in the Nottingham Robin Hood Marathon but decided that the Walking Club must be their priority - highly commendable!

a pause a chat view

Cropwell Wolds is in the south-west corner of the parish of Cropwell Bishop. You may have noticed the covered water reservoir on your left as you travel from the Lime Kiln to the A46. Well, Cropwell Wolds is beyond the reservoir. To go there you must walk on the public right of way which is a steep path leading up near the house on the left prior to the reservoir. You will need a map because the path is unclear at times. I aim to put detailed directions on the website at some future date.

the view in August

The walk was quite an adventure for all of us. Now, whenever we drive down the A46 and go up the hill after the Colston Bassett to Cotgrave junction, we will look up to the woods on the left and say, "I have stood there."

high walk heading home

And when we have goats cheese at Langar Hall, we will be able to say, "I have stroked one of the goats that made this cheese."

last hill pause for thought

What more can you ask of a two hour strole on a Sunday morning. Cost, zero; time, minimal; satisfaction, everlasting.
