Boxing Day Walk (27-12-10)

Boxing Day Walk 26-12-10 The urge to stretch your legs after days of partying, eating and drinking can be as great as - the urge that comes after days of sitting, watching TV, playing with kids and reminiscing with Christmas relatives.

Whatever the source of the urge, over 40 people turned up for the Boxing Day Walk. Conditions were perfect. The wintery sunshine brightened the day and the ground was frozen enough to ensure that there was no mud, yet dry enough to prevent the very slippy conditions of a year ago.

We headed over crisp fields and paths to Colston Bassett where the scenery was stunning. Tree-lined walks, Colston Bassett Hall, woodpeckers, the old Church and good company: we had it all.

We returned to The Old School where Hilary had been slaving away to prepare a little feast for us all. Pork and sausages from Barlows filled our cobs, together with chutneys from Barbara Pugh—it was a festival of local food. Mince pies and mulled wine finished off the meal and allowed us to drift home feeling full and healthy(ish).
