Hoe Hill—from the north (22-5-11)

Walk 22-5-11 Walk 22-5-11 The Walking Group entered the woods on Hoe Hill today but the route they took was not the one that crows take!

First we headed across the fields behind the Primary School and then on to Butler Close in Cropwell Butler. After wandering along little known paths we left the village and headed to our objective, Hoe Hill.

A smattering of rain could not deter us and soon we were climbing high onto the hill surrounded by giant trees of beech, maple and oak. Even the strong wind could not reach us there.

We left by the path on the west side, and soon we were striding along the Canal tow path. This was short lived: within minutes we were crossing the canal bed (still very dry!) and then onto the footpath that headed straight to the top corner of Hoe View Road and Cropwell Bishop itself.

Just 75 mins from start to finish: quite an adventure for a Sunday morning. Will you share our next one? You will be made very welcome.

Census Day Walk round Cropwell Butler (27-3-11)

Walk 27-3-11 26-12-10 We were at it again today—talking and walking. The chance to do it on Census Day will not come again for 10 years so we had to make the most of the opportunity to put the World to right—Cropwell Bishop too.

Twenty people set out at 10am. Were they looking a bit tired after losing an hour last night? Maybe. Did some members turn up at the Wheatsheaf an hour later, having forgotton to put their clocks forward? We don't know.

Unusually, something that did not turn up on time was the sushine: it did appear just after we got home. It's ironic: had it not been for the start of British Summer Time we would have been walking in the sun. Ah well, at least it didn't rain and Cropwell Butler was welcoming—as were the sheep and spring lambs.
