Why the daisies are there (21-6-09)

On our last walk ("A chance to visit the neighbours" 18-6-09) we came across a field near Cropwell Butler that was full of tall daisies (see pictures in that article). It mystified us but Barbara Pugh, of Cropwell Bishop, saw the report and provided a solution. Here it is:

"You posed a question on the walk page about the field of daisies. If this is the field just past the houses on Tythby Road, which was my grandfather's field in days gone by and now belongs to Margaret Baddiley; she grows wild flowers for Langar Naturscape in that field. I think this is her first year to see if it is worthwhile before she extends to the other fields that I used to go to with my grandfather down Meadow Lane, at the side of the old vicarage on the right of the road further towards Tythby just past Miss Franktons' cottage - the one they are extending end on to the road."

So thank you Barbara, mystery solved. Barbara provided the answer whilst on holiday in a caravan in a field in the Cotswolds! Ah, the wonders of modern technology: what would my grandmother have thought of it all? (she died in 1972).

A chance to visit the neighbours (18-6-09)

Fern Road

It was the 8th walk of the Walking Club but the first time it had been arranged for an evening. Being a shorter walk than recent ones, it proved a good opportunity to visit our neighbour, Cropwell Butler.

Leaving Fern Road, we walked behind the Primary School and eventually emerged on the Bultler-Tythby road. From there we cut across fields and eventually reached Cropwell Butler's village hall.

Then it was a gentle walk along the bridlepath that leads up by Hoe Hill.

We saw the field of daisies (are they wild or have they been planted? and why?), had a good natter with friends - new and old, and all felt a bit fitter for the exercise (well, we will in day or two).

Go for an evening stroll on Thursday 18th June (11-6-09)

wide view daisy field It is almost the longest day of the year. That means long sunny evenings. What better time to join the Walking Group for an evening stroll?

On Thursday 18th June, we will meet (as always) in the Wheatsheaf car park. We start walking at 7.00pm and we will be back just after 8.00pm.

Just look at the views: do you know the location of the field of giant daisies?

All forty members of the Walking Club have already been invited to this walk, but you don't have to be a member to come along, just turn up and enjoy your local countryside and the company of others from the village. See you at 7.00pm then!
